The human population is projected to increase from 7.4 to more than 9 billion by 2050. This, along with an expected increase in demand for livestock products due to urban development and rising incomes, will increase the need for meat worldwide two-fold by 2050. At present, livestock production accounts for the largest land use segment (over 30%) of our planet. It is clear that policy makers and the food production industry must support inventions and technologies that improve efficiencies and sustainability related to livestock production. EffStock has been created to support basic science research in livestock that is expected to bring animals to market in less time, using less feed, and with less greenhouse gas production.
